In the event of an outbreak of any pandemics, the sudden increase in the volume of highly contagious bio-medical waste could present challenges for hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Today the majority of healthcare facilities use haulers to transport regulated medical waste to an off-site treatment facility. This process requires the generating facility to store contaminated waste on their premises while awaiting the next pick-up. When the waste is ultimately transported off-site for processing it must be transported through the community.
