Red Bag Solutions Releases First SSM to Johns Hopkins Hospital
Medical School To Test Patented Method For On-Site Infectious Medical Waste Disposal
Hunt Valley, MD - Red Bag Solutions, a Maryland-based company - which has developed a patented technology that transforms infectious medical waste into a safe, confetti-like material which can be disposed as ordinary trash - today it delivered its processing
unit to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine for beta testing.
Referred to as the SSM (Steam Sterilizer Macerator), the technology processes
infectious medical waste material with super heated water, while simultaneously macerating the solids. The resultant material meets OSHA standards for ordinary disposal because it is
non-infectious, non-hazardous and non-recognizable.
"We are very pleased that the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine - which has national recognition as a leading healthcare provider - has agreed to participate in our beta-testing," said Bill Norton,
President and Chief Operating Officer
"With the SSM, we hope to gain a more economical and a safer method for disposal of biohazardous waste," said Jack Grinnalds, Senior Director of Facilities Management at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Designed to be used on-site at hospitals and nursing homes of all sizes, the SSM reduces the volume of solid waste by 80 percent, decreases hauling costs, and virtually eliminates transport and handling liabilities.
Based in Baltimore, Red Bag Solutions is an environmentally-conscious company whose water-based technology addresses two primary markets: disposal of infectious medical waste and the disposition of dissolvable, degradable materials. For more
